If you're curious about the drumming traditions and lore of Puerto Rico, look no further. This is arranged by William Cepeda, whose family name has been a touchstone for high quality Boricuan traditional music for generations. This record demonstrates the wide divergence in style of the two main Afro-Boricuan forms, the bomba and plena,-from the provinces of Loiza, Santurce and Ponce. This outstanding labour of love may go some way toward redressing the currently-uncritical 'Cuba is God' approach of too many record companies 'catalogues to percussion-based music.
